Recognizing Obesity in Pets

Recognizing Obesity in Pets

by Scritch

October 9th is Pet Obesity Awareness Day. One important check your vet will do at your pet’s annual vet visit is taking your pet’s weight and assessing their body fat. Even though your vet does this once a year, it’s a good idea to occasionally check in on your pet’s weight at home, too.

When assessing a dog or cat’s weight, veterinarians use score charts, like the ones below. If you haven’t checked lately, we encourage you to assess your pet’s body to determine whether they are at a healthy weight. For pets that are under or overweight, it’s a good idea to visit your vet to put together a plan for reaching a healthy weight.
